Bees

Quilting bees of the past were usually made up of women in the community who gathered around a quilt frame to work on a quilt together. They took the opportunity to have much-needed fellowship with other women – to share their burdens as well as their joys. A quilting bee was an indispensable part of their often isolated lives.

Today, bees are comprised of women (and sometimes men) who desire to meet in smaller groups on a regular basis, sometimes to quilt, to sew, or just visit.

The Tri-County Quilt Guild sponsors several bees, participation in which is limited to members in good standing of the guild. Attendance at the first meeting does not commit you to join it. Feel free to take a test drive first! Other than that, the parameters of each bee will be determined by the individual Beekeeper. Several of our current bees are reaching (or have already reached) capacity.

For BeeKeeper Wanna-Be’s, here are four reasons to consider starting a new bee:

1) You get to choose the date

2) You get to choose the time

3) You get to choose the place

4) You get to decide on the focus

Contact the Head BeeKeeper, _______, for information on becoming a Beekeeper or joining an existing bee. Also, if you’re short on ideas, the guild library has 2 copies of the book, “Quilting Bees: Ideas & Projects” to help you get started.
